"Hearing the Call with Marvin Fairchild" is a radio show that promotes vocations in the NW Arkansas area. “Hearing the Call” originated in 2005 as a local 17 minute show that ran between two segments of a nationally broadcast show with the same name carried by Relevant Radio. Despite the fact Relevant Radio later discontinued the show, due to its local popularity, “Hearing the Call with Marvin Fairchild” has gone on to be featured as a weekly 30-minute show broadcast on KDUA 96.5 FM every Friday and Saturday morning @ 9:30 AM, Sunday evenings @ 5:00 PM, and again on Monday thru Friday evenings @ 8:30 PM.

A prayer for increased vocations is commonplace in many U.S. churches and throughout the world. Since it’s peak in the 60’s, the numbers of priests, brothers and sisters has steadily declined. In his show, Marvin discusses some of the possible factors behind this trend, while at the same time highlighting the encouraging growth found in the rising numbers of ordained deacons. Whatever the path, Marvin invites each of his guests to share their story of how God called each of them to their particular vocation.

In 2007 Marvin expanded his guest list to include lay people as a means of highlighting their vocations and ministry to the Church. In most parishes, lay people are instrumental in the day-to-day operations within parishes, schools, religious education programs, social outreach, and more.

As a result, the weekday shows feature Marvin interviewing local church staff as well as various ministry leaders from area parishes. These guests share stories about their respective ministries along with their plans for the future. One of the goals of these shows is to inspire listeners to the possible ways God calls ordinary people to share the good news of His Gospel message.

Marvin and Loretta Fairchild have celebrated over 60 years of marriage and have been blessed with 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grand children. Moving from Oklahoma to Rogers in 1958, Marvin and Loretta have been active members at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church since the day they arrived. Marvin’s love for the Catholic Church, priests, sisters and lay people as well as his passion for the Christian life makes him the ideal host for “Hearing the Call”.
