Mornings With Monsignor is back for Winter/Spring 2010!
 
Men of the parish (and their friends) are invited to learn more about their Catholic faith and enjoy fellowship each Friday morning this Winter, starting January 15th at 6:30 a.m. in SVdP Hall. Come to know more about God’s call in your life as a Catholic man in today’s world. All men in our community are cordially invited.

February 19, 2010 - Sessions 5 & 6:
"The Mass - Christ Present in the Word and in the Eucharist"
  • Review of last session - "Christ Present in the Priest".
  • Christ present in the Word of God.
    • We sit and listen as if we were at the Lord's feet.
    • We stand for the Gospel out of respect for Christ: "may the Word of the Lord be in my mind, on my lips and in my heart": John 1:35-42.
    • The homily - we sit.
    • The Creed - we stand.
    • Intercessions.
  • Christ present in the Eucharist.
    • The altar of sacrifice becomes a table - food for the journey.
    • What we receive depends on what we expect.
    • We are sent: "Ite, missa est".

February 12, 2010 - Session 4: "The Mass - Christ Present in the Priest"
  • Review of last session - "Christ Present in the community".
  • Christ present in the priest.
    • Two participations in one Priesthood (CCC # 1547).
      • That of the laity.
      • That of the ordained clergy.
    • The priest as an "icon" of Christ (CCC # 1142).
      • Icons as "doorways" to the sacred.
  • The presence of Christ in the priest at Mass.
    • Christ is the source of all priesthood.

  • Review: entering the Kingdom of God is an individual endeavor which causes some anxiety or crisis because we must enter through the narrow gate. Part of the access to the Kingdom is through brokenness which calls us to trust in a power greater than ourselves and greater than our fears or problems.
  • The cost of entering the Kingdom of God.
  • How do we pay this price?
  • The rewards of the Kingdom - proper relation with self, others and God.

October 31, 2008 - Final Session on the Kingdom of Heaven

  • Review:
    • The Kingdom, God's "agenda".
    • Entry requires personal change, new wineskins for new wine.
    • The old well; dreams; the inner world is the realm of the Kingdom.
    • The Kingdom way is narrow; woundedness, realization of a higher power.
    • Ego, masks, "personas" make it difficult to enter the Kingdom, but removal of the mask can lead to inner healing.
    • The "shadow" must be faced and accepted to enter the Kingdom - kissing the frog.
    • Finding the lost coin, taking the "road not taken", embracing the lost brother.
  • This life: a rehearsal for eternity?
    • Jesus and Lazarus - John 11 - to be free to live.
    • The wrappings of ego, masks, shadows are unraveled by consciousness.
    • Oneness with God and self is the locus of the Kingdom - the place of inner peace.
